Weather Retorts

This group of poems is about the weather and/or the seasons that rule it.

The Second Falling, Jan. 20, 2025

During the 1960s, I fledged into a nation sliced in two by democracy:
some for assassinations, some against,
some for racial hatred, some against,
some for imperial wars, some against,
some for enlightenment, some for indoctrination.

Now, in my 70s, good fortune delivers me to bear witness as the lesson
unfolds for all to see, that without honesty for a keystone, the arch of justice
and liberty collapses like a house of cards on the casino floor.

Afflicted by the same ailment that led his father to salute Hitler, Donald of Yonkers
proves the hollowness of words. Ignorant of what the American Constitution represents,
in his mind, Lady Liberty is just another broad in a New York department store.
