Words Are Like That

From time to time they
may line up in lucid order,
emerge from your mind
to parade out loud

And attract applause
from bystanders,
kudos from onlookers,
plaudits from passersby,

Yet, they’ll never
merit your allegiance,
any more than flags
make worthy shrouds.
