Polemic

War Orphans

Perpetual children, Americans await
father’s return from war, but war has
a mind of its own.

War has its own dependents, in the
bloody trades and professions
of the donor class,

Who feed fodder to generals, who
huddle under brassy hats, to aim
cannon and gun,

This way and that, everyday,
since Common Sense was ridden
out of town on a rail.
