Polemic

By Their Agreeable Quarrel

Light and darkness,
heat and cold,
hunger and food,
sweet and sour,
solid, liquid, and gas
circle us around in a wreath
of pleasure that beguiles the day of life.

Every day, the eye repeats
the first eulogy on things:
We saw that they were good.

This poem was “found” in Ralph Waldo Emerson’s essay, Uses of Great Men
