Ars poetica

The meteoric rise in the academic sanctioning of poets since the 1970s has made "ars poetica" one of the things never far from my mind.

Dressing Tennyson

No dressing-down would
Wordsworth bequeath his heir,

Who, unsubtlely, put on the
dead man’s gown, then took

A knee, ‘fore the Queen, who prizes
such submission – it’s good for the show.
