The meteoric rise in the academic sanctioning of poets since the 1970s has made "ars poetica" one of the things never far from my mind.

Not taken by long lines of poets

Who won’t stand in line, nor
Acknowledge the Dean, nor
Her minions, who crown one

King of the Poem, one
Queen of the Poem, one
Prince of the Poem, one

Earl of Errant Madness, one
Duke of Ditz, one
Princess of Palaver, one

Lady of the Lake, one
Knight of the Cruel Headache, one
Pope of Greenwich Connecticut, one the next Bob Dylan…
