Only Poets Can Serve Two Masters

Since Erato cannot monetize
her distribution of golden tongues
among the race of talkers,

She cut a deal with Charon to carry
across poets whom fate makes sell their
marketable skill for seats in guilds

That succor lawyers, cops, professors,
and the like, especially those flacks of history
and news, who lipstick pigs to make them fly.

Dave Read

Ed. note: Erato and Charon are veritable peers and classmates of Moses; look ’em up, you’ll love ’em.
