When did they cancel “good, better, best, never let it rest…” ?
By Dave Read, Lenox, MA, Dec. 17, 2024 – The fact that I’ve begun to hear so many people say they’re not going to lie leads me to suspect that dishonesty has become the norm. People assume other people lie as casually as they do, so when they are about to cross over to honesty, they need to give fair warning. There’s something sweet about that, even if it’s a symptom of a perilous contagion.
How else do we account for the fact that the person with more than 30,000 lies documented during his apprentice presidency, has had the fate of the free world put back in his frequently fingerprinted hands?

Like a river, truth flows through history, subject to being made to collect in reservoirs behind dams of lies and half-truths every now and then. Mussolini, Hitler, and Hirohito drowned scores of millions of people when the dams of their lies burst open 80 years ago.
In the wake of that tsunami, Stalin and Mao killed another fifty million people in the construction of new dams. One leak was plugged with 13,000 bodies in Tianamen Square forty years ago, the other leak kills scores of thousands in Ukraine today.
Four hundred years ago, Galileo was nearly drowned when he poked a hole through a dike of dishonest dogma, promulgated by religious fanatics who preferred the fairy tale of geocentrism to the truth of the heavens, and the facts on the ground.
protection for Americans against killer elites
Today, the facts on the ground again are ignored by a veritable stampede of people who know they are cozying up to a colossal liar. Like their ancestors 400 years ago, they prefer a mAga fairy tale to the facts on the ground, and the truth in the heavens.
Sad to say, the smart money today backs reporters and pundits who feed their audiences a diet of half-truths; they pretend to fall on their swords, as they lay blame for the infamy of Nov. 5 at the feet of brand new bogeymen – elites who read and write.
In an epic act of condescension and distraction, David Brooks has fired a missive at bales of straw wrapped in academic regalia. The two-edged sword of democracy having excised republicanism from the American experiment, he has come to save Americans from the killer elites!
He assures us that Don from Yonkers was re-elected because of decisions made in the 1980s, during another actor’s administration, by the same sort of people who sort through college and job applications looking for people just like himself.
I’m not lying, sisters and brothers. Even though he knows the GOP swallowed poison when they embraced Strom Thurmond in 1964, he wants you to think racism had nothing to do with the defeat of the Vice President Harris. He blames the eggheads even though he has studied the Attack on the American Free Enterprise System.
David Brooks knows that after writing his primer to Project 2025, Lewis F. Powell, Jr. was given a seat on the Supreme Court of the United States by the first of several presidents elected since the republicans became the home team of racial animosity.
Huddled in the shadow of a dam more than 30,000 lies deep, the survivors of its bursting will wish America had elected a beaver to the presidency, instead of the son of a Nazi sympathizer. Meanwhile, in heaven, Ralph Waldo Emerson does pushups to atone for going into the magazine business.
