Ensign Bonespur and the Barbaric Pirates

Are American military personnel unjustly imperiled by Trump?

By Dave Read, Lenox, MA, November 5, 2025 – While Congress and the Supine Court cower under his dirty boots, the president has transformed the once-proud U.S. Navy into a demonic version of the Barbary Pirates, whom Thomas Jefferson sent to Davy Jones’ locker.

Federalist President John Adams had favored the continual payment of tribute to the Barbary states, but the bold Jefferson convinced Congress to outfit a naval force that would free America from paying tribute to tin horn, third rate tyrants. (As all world leaders, and American sycophants do in D.C. today.)

Contrary to the Barbary Pirates who claimed religious justification for their declared war against infidel Christian merchants of Europe and America, today’s drug runners are simply capitalists answering the demands of the American market. Before we succumbed to felon-led lawlessness, maritime drug traffic had been the jurisdiction of the Coast Guard.

Any naval officer unable to understand the illegality and immorality of summary execution on the high seas is unfit for an officer’s rank, and brings dishonor to centuries of honorable Navy personnel.

Each corpse produced in America’s name will produce untold numbers of relatives and fellow citizens with burning hatreds and appetites for revenge. None of them will agree with the hollow MAGA slogan used to justify every whim of the pirate president.

Just as decades of American military meddling in and around Saudi Arabia produced the bulls-eye targets of 9-11, so too will these summary executions of civilians on the high seas by the U.S. Navy attach bulls-eye targets to future American sailors, ships, and seaports.

The Army and Navy already tasted dishonor in 2019, when they failed to protest the pardons and reinstatement to rank of soldiers and sailors who had been convicted of murder and war crimes in Afghanistan. Civilized people abide by the Geneva Convention because they fear regression into barbarism, which backsliding looks already underway in America, now home to pirates who kill at the whim of draft dodgers and tipsy weekend anchors.

When American personnel go unpunished for criminal acts on foreign soil and the high seas, every subsequent American soldier and sailor becomes a hostage to the pardoned behavior of a few bad actors. So long as an unpunished felon is commander-in-chief of the United States of America, no American, at home or abroad, is either safe or free. Trump, of course, is as ignorant of the First Barbary War, as he is of history in general. Now that more and more of the federal bureaucracy is as ignorant, the American ship of state is rudderless in an angry, dangerous sea.
