Don’t Be So Retarded

It ain’t the word shaped by the wind
blown out of someone’s lungs that hurts
your feelings, or frightens you –

It’s who owns the heart, mind, and soul
that comes with those lungs that you’re
well advised to worry about.

After all, sticks and stones will break
your bones, but words will help you
locate somebody in orthopedics.
