Big Lies Make Big Losers

The Civil War and MAGA are losers

By Dave Read, Lenox, MA, Oct. 17, 2026 – The canard of States Rights is the Big Lie that made the Confederacy a losing proposition. Human nature is such that when we hide why we go to war, we cede to the opposition the moral high ground.

(The volunteers of the Colonial armed forces defeated the British king’s best-trained professionals because the volunteers commanded the high ground of their own inchoate country.)

It was their sense of righteousness that powered the Union to victory, while the Confederacy’s sense of shame over slavery led it to lose the war it waged under the dishonest banner of states rights.

The true purpose of the Civil War was to preserve and expand slavery beyond the Mason-Dixon line. States Rights was substituted as the cause of the insurrection, because the slave interest was too ashamed to admit they tried to destroy the American Union to preserve such a peculiar institution as slavery.

No state, nor group of states, has authority to disband what had been established in 1776, by We, the People, the citizens of the 13 British-American colonies, who first emancipated themselves from the British monarch, then framed the constitution “in order to form a more perfect union.”

After the surrender of the British in 1783, the colonists sent representatives back to Philadelphia to design the American republic, or government of the people, by the people, for the people, as President Lincoln would put it at Gettysburg even before Union victory had been secured.

It was only after authority had been divided among the legislative, judicial, and executive branches of the national government that the remainder was delegated to the several states. The national government is the creature of the people, while the states are creatures of the national government.

The inalienable human rights spoken of in the Declaration of Independence and Bill of Rights are inalienable because they were vested in people by nature, or nature’s god, which puts them beyond the reach of unnatural, ungodly bodies such as a municipality, state, or nation.

Southern slave interests were given fair warning by the Slave Trade Act of 1794, and the Act Prohibiting the Importation of Slaves in 1807, that slavery would eventually be abolished in the United States.

No state has any right beyond what the national government allows, and certainly no right to nullify the inalienable human rights found in the Declaration of Independence and Bill of Rights.

Besides serving as the ultimate false flag of the Civil War, States Rights is what gave cover to the imposition of Jim Crow rule in the aftermath of emancipation. The same specious reasoning that allows states to exercise fantasy rights led to the long dominion of Jim Crow.

Throughout our first 250 years, American progress toward a more perfect union has been delayed and reversed by jurists skilled in the manipulation of language and the misapplication of reason. Throughout the vanquished Confederacy, the apartheid of segregation was imposed to deny the rights and privilege’s of American citizenship to emancipated people.

It’s as if the slave interests who failed to preserve and expand slavery, devised a scheme to preserve and extend the terror of slavery, after the emancipation they were impotent to prevent.

The valor and heroism that delivered the Union to victory failed to prevent the spread of racial animus and bigotry throughout the country. Nor could it immunize jurists against heresy, such as the Unitary Executive theory professed today by a majority on the U.S. Supreme Court.

Except for that canard, America’s chief felon is subject to the rule of law, like everybody else. All that is required to find an exception to the essential American proposition that no man is above the law is the same ignorance of history that supports the divine right of kings, the principle cause of the American Revolution.

The antidote to that fallacy is the honest application of what’s found in the documents America is founded upon. Without honest application of law, rationalizations can be devised to permit slavery and to prevent the imprisonment of America’s fake king.
